Restaurant Review: Popolano's Italian Restaurant, Chesterton, IN

Popolano's has to be one of my favourite restaurants. I like the parking, the décor, the background music, the option to dine outdoors and the food. Popolano's is a good place for a leisurely lunch or a nice supper.

Located in downtown Chesterton, Popolano's features Italian cuisine, but you can get a good steak or seafood dish too. When dining outdoors you are right on Calumet St., so you can watch the crowds go by.

Pluses: Lunch tends to be less crowded. I recommend the Pot Roast sandwich. Try the sweet potato fries.  The fish and chips are always good and they have daily specials.

Supper:  My absolute favourite is: Rigatoni with Spicy Chicken.  I am told by people who opinions I trust that the Zuppa di Pesce is the best to be found outside of Chicago.  The Lake Perch is also very good.

I find the pizza only so-so. You might love it, people have wildly different tastes in pizza. If you feel like pizza please do try it.

They have a decent beer selection and a very good wine selection.

Minuses: Seating more than doubles during the summer months with the outdoor dining.  I think this puts a strain the kitchen and on keeping a trained wait staff and service can be a little inconsistent. Generally its rare, but I have had it happen enough that I mention it.
