Restaurant Review: Leroy's Hot Stuff, Porter, IN

The best way I can think of to characterize Leroy's Hot Stuff is a "roadhouse".  Because of the Indiana smoking laws the whole place is considered a bar with smoking allowed, and you must be 21 years old to enter.  There is however a regular dining area for breakfast, lunch and supper which is not too smoky.  The building has been there forever and has character.  You won't mistake Leroy's for a "clone bar."

Cuisine is mainly Mexican with some American fare available too.  The thing I notice is all the lettuce, tomatoes and veg, looks really fresh and clean. Big points there.  The Mexican food is sort of typical Tex-Mex style, although I'm no expert, and might be a little on the mild side.  Prices are very reasonable.  My experience is that they are very consistent in the quality and preparation of the meals.

Breakfast: You can get one heck of a breakfast - 3 eggs, lots of your choice of meat, hash brown potatoes, toast for just $5!

Tip: The Mexican Breakfast is really good.  The pancakes are good too.  Portions are generous.  You can also build your own breakfast burrito - it isn't on the menu but just tell them what you want in it and they will figure out the price.

Lunch:  There are lunch specials every day of the week. Again prices are reasonable.  You can't go wrong with either the tacos or burrito, either ala carte or the full dinner.

Supper: Truth, I have not been in Leroy's  for supper, but the food is the same lunch or supper so you can't go wrong.  They do have some American dishes like Lake Perch and other seafood.  I have not tried these.

Bar and entertainment: There is an ever changing assortment of beers on tap. There are always a couple craft brews, plus some premium beers from the major breweries and then standard American beers.  More choices in bottles.  Full bar for mixed drinks and hard liquor.  Darts and pool table.

There always seems to be entertainment at night. Mostly, local and regional bands.  I have been in several times and the bands have always been good. There is a cover charge on band nights.

Honestly, the more I go to Leroy's the more impressed I am.  I won't say it is the best Mexican restaurant I've ever been too, but you get good consistent food at a very reasonable price, good friendly service and a place with character.

Leroy's does catering.
