Restaurant Review: Octave Grill, Chesterton, Indiana

It pays to specialize.  Octave Grill is a gourmet burger joint in old down town Chesterton. They serve a bunch of different Tallgrass beef burgers, plus veggie and grilled chicken sandwiches, some fish and not much else. All to the good, by specializing they manage to outdo every other gourmet restaurant that serves burgers in NW Indiana and that is saying something.

Dine in or take-out. Closed Monday’s.

Frankly, I am no expert on Chinese food and I have no idea how to tell the difference between the many rich and complex sub-cuisines that make up what we, in America, lump together as “Chinese” food. Maybe, just maybe I can detect well prepared Chinese food from indifferently prepared dishes.

Restaurant Review: Popolano's Italian Restaurant, Chesterton, IN

Popolano's has to be one of my favourite restaurants. I like the parking, the d├ęcor, the background music, the option to dine outdoors and the food. Popolano's is a good place for a leisurely lunch or a nice supper.

Restaurant Review: Leroy's Hot Stuff, Porter, IN

The best way I can think of to characterize Leroy's Hot Stuff is a "roadhouse".  Because of the Indiana smoking laws the whole place is considered a bar with smoking allowed, and you must be 21 years old to enter.  There is however a regular dining area for breakfast, lunch and supper which is not too smoky.  The building has been there forever and has character.  You won't mistake Leroy's for a "clone bar."

Restaurant Review: George's Gyros Spot, Chesterton, Indiana

George's is one of the "fast food" gems in northern Porter County.  Prices are reasonable, portions generous and the food is good.  In fact George's Gyros Spot, is one of the two great bargain eateries in Duneland.
